Boats, mining and construction vehicles, tractors, railcars: these are only a few of the many possible applications for electrification and hybridization. They all face the same challenges, such as the urgency to reduce emissions, the necessity to find an alternative to oil due to price volatility, and the need to reduce their operating costs.
The mining sector has a significant impact on the environment. Only in Canada, in 2014, emissions of greenhouse gas in the mining sector in Canada stood at 32 million tonnes (Mt).
A major driver towards electrification is ventilation costs related to underground mining. Representing over 40% of operation costs, the sector must adapt in order to remain competitive.
As regulations become more stringent and environmental concerns more immediate, the need for green propulsion alternatives for the marine industry is becoming increasingly urgent. As a result of this demand, TM4 is now making its permanent magnet electric powertrain portfolio available to the marine sector.
